Event Cinemas is one of Australia’s most recognisable cinema brands, known for delivering unforgettable big-screen experiences. With multiple sub-brands ranging from luxury boutique lounges to high-octane 4DX screenings, Event wanted a sonic identity that could unify the master brand while celebrating the individuality of each offering.

Our Brief

Smith & Western were engaged to design a complete sonic branding solution. The challenge was to create a bold, timeless hero identity for Event, and then extend it across six diverse cinema experiences, each requiring its own distinct sound that resonated with its unique audience.

Strategy

Our strategy focused on building a flexible but instantly recognisable sonic DNA. At the centre was a powerful three-note motif, adaptable in tone and instrumentation, ensuring consistency while allowing each sub-brand to express its personality. From playful and lighthearted for kids, to sophisticated and refined for boutique, the sonic framework was crafted to mirror the emotional journey of each experience.

Creative

We composed and produced a suite of over 200 assets, including the master Event sonic logo, sub-brand variations, and an extensive library of themes, stings, and atmospheres. The sonic palette was carefully orchestrated to evoke immersion, excitement, and distinction, ensuring audiences felt the brand’s presence from the moment they stepped into the cinema.

Activation

The sonic branding now plays throughout Event cinema complexes across Australia, from foyer entrances to on-screen advertising, and extends into all marketing and communication channels. This fully integrated sonic toolkit gives Event Cinemas a bold, memorable identity that reinforces the magic of the big-screen experience every time audiences engage with the brand.
